Beating the Heat & Learning Our ABCs: A Summer Win for Mom and Kids

There’s something magical about summer break—the slower mornings, the longer days, and that undeniable sense of freedom my kids get when school’s out. But let’s be honest: there’s also something wildly overwhelming about figuring out how to entertain little ones when it’s 90+ degrees outside and everyone’s getting cranky by 10 AM.
Enter: the Splash EZ ABC Splash Pad. Part sprinkler, part alphabet playground, and 100% mom sanity-saver.

A Backyard Lifesaver
I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. I bought the splash pad on a whim during a late-night scroll, lured in by the promise of “educational water play.” But as soon as I rolled it out in the backyard and hooked up the hose, it became our summer MVP.
It’s a round, inflatable mat with big, colorful letters printed all around the edge. As the water sprays up in gentle arches, my kids dance, stomp, and shout out the letters they land on. My toddler especially loves calling out “B for Banana!” while splashing through it like it’s her own personal fountain.
Cooling Off with a Side of Learning
What I love most is that it combines everything I want for a summer activity: it keeps them active, it cools them down, and it sneaks in a little bit of learning. They’re practicing letters without even realizing it. We’ve started turning it into a game—“Find the letter that your name starts with!” or “Can you stomp on every vowel?”—and it’s amazing how much they’ve picked up just by playing.
Plus, from a purely practical mom-perspective: it requires zero setup beyond a hose and inflates in less than 5 minutes. No trips to the crowded pool, no dragging wet towels home, and no admission fees. Just the sound of giggles, splashing water, and the occasional “Mooom! She stole my turn on the ‘W’!”
Summer Made Simple
It’s easy to get caught up in the pressure to plan perfect summer days—camp schedules, museum trips, Pinterest-worthy crafts—but sometimes, the best memories are made barefoot in the backyard, soaked from head to toe, with a splash pad and the ABCs.
So here’s to simple joys, cool water, and long summer days where learning happens one splash at a time. And if you’re looking for me this afternoon, I’ll be in the shade with a popsicle, watching my little ones race each other to the letter Z.
